BTS is arguably the most influential and famous K-pop team, each member of which boasts remarkable talent and charisma. A good example is the biography of Min Yoongi – in 2013, a young man from South Korea made his debut as part of a little-known group, and today he is listed as the author and producer of more than 70 popular songs.
Min Yoongi was born on March 9, 1993, in Daegu, South Korea. Yoongi first attended Daejeon Elementary School and then went to Gwaneum High School. He was a fairly capable student, but instead of paying attention to his studies, Min spent time writing lyrics, pursuing his passion for music. Much later, he mentioned that he was inspired to creative activity after meeting the songs of the hip-hop group Epik High, which he heard in the sixth grade.
But he still continued to make music, despite the disapproval of his parents. At the age of 13, Yoongi learned about the MIDI format and began composing his first pieces. Due to the lack of money in the family, the young man had to start working early. In an interview, Min recalled a time when he had no money for the bus home because he bought a bowl of noodles.
At the age of 17, the artist worked part-time in a recording studio, which allowed him to expand his knowledge of composition and arrangement of compositions. In 2010, Yoongi became part of the hip-hop team D-Town, and received the nickname Gloss. Under this name, he released the track “518-062”, where the first part of the title refers to the date of the uprising of the movement for democratization, and the second is identical to the code of the city of Gwangju, in which the protest took place.
Around the same time, Yoongi took part in an audition organized by Big Hit Entertainment and finished in second place after receiving an internship offer. Bang Shihka, the founder of the company, personally promised Ming that he would practically not have to do choreography. Instead, the artist was promised almost complete freedom with regard to his production abilities.
Min agreed and was introduced to rapper Kim Namjoon. Together, they were the backbone of what would become BTS in a few years.
The acronym BTS (pronounced “bities”) has several transcripts – these are Bulletproof Boyscouts and Beyond The Scene, however, the most famous and familiar is Bangtan Boys. The team started in 2013 with seven members on board:
- Kim Namjoon (ArEm) is a group leader and rapper.
- Kim Sokchin (Jin) is a singer.
- Min Yonggi (Suga) is a rapper.
- Jung Hoseok (J-Hope) is a rapper and choreographer.
- Park Jimin (Jimin) is a vocalist and choreographer.
- Kim Taehyung (V) is a singer.
- Jung Jungkook (Jungkook) is a singer, rapper and choreographer.
The group debuted in June 2013 with the single “No More Dream”, which was featured on their debut mini-album “2 Cool 4 Skool”. In 2014, the team released their second EP, Scool Luv Affair and their first full-length album, Dark & Wild. For these two releases, Min composed and produced several songs:
“Let Me Know”.
Later on, Yoongi’s involvement as a composer and producer of the group expanded significantly. BTS released six studio albums (one of which was reissued under a different title), four compilations and six EPs. As of December 2019, BTS has sold over 10 million copies, setting a record among all South Korean groups to debut since 2000.
The artist currently lives in Hannam-Dong, Seoul . He has participated in many charity events, both with BTS and in person.
Almost nothing is known about the love side of Ming’s life. None of the subsequent rumors about Min Jung’s girlfriend had any solid foundation. The artist himself says that he is too busy with work and does not have time for dates.
Suga is known for his open support for the LGBT community. One way or another, he, like the rest of the BTS members, is the hero of multiple fanfictions with sexual content, where the most innocent thing the characters can do is kiss each other.
