Kristen Stewart is an American actress who made her film debut at the age of 8.

The film adaptation of the series of novels “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer brought world fame to the actress. This incredibly popular story of the all-consuming love of two seemingly incompatible characters – a living flesh and blood girl and a vampire among teenagers, became the prime of Kristen Stewart’s career.

Childhood of Kristen Stewart

Kristen James Stewart was born on April 9, 1990 in Los Angeles, California. Kristen’s mother, Jules Stewart-Mann, was an editor and screenwriter. Father, John Stewart, worked as an assistant director, producer and director of numerous shows on Fox and Comedy Central. In addition to Kristen, John and Julia have a son, Cameron, and two adopted children, Dan and Taylor. Kristen’s childhood passed in the states of Colorado and Pennsylvania, and only when she was eight years old, the family returned to Los Angeles.

In an interview, Kristen, who made her film debut at the age of 8, admitted that as a child she did not dream of becoming an actress, but she liked to sign autographs to anyone who asked.

In 1998, while performing a song in a school Christmas play, a talent search agent drew attention to it. A year later, Kristen made her debut on the Disney Channel in the comedy television movie “The Son of a Mermaid.” Thus began Stewart’s acting career, for which she dropped out of school after the seventh grade and switched to homeschooling.

Career of Kristen Stewart

Stewart’s first appearance on stage was in a school Christmas play, in which she was spotted by an agent. He contacted the girl’s parents and offered to support her interest in acting. Initially, the parents were against this idea, but Kristen persuaded them and at the age of 8 began to attend auditions for roles in films and TV shows.

Kristen made her first screen appearance a year later in the Disney Channel production of Son of a Mermaid (1999). A more serious role went to her after a couple of years in the independent melodrama Rose Trochet “Safety of Things” (2001), where she played the daughter of a single mother.

In 2002, Stewart starred in David Fincher’s major Hollywood film Panic Room. Initially, another young actress, Hayden Panettiere (future wife of boxer Wladimir Klitschko), claimed the role of Jodie Foster’s daughter. This was due primarily to the fact that another actress, Nicole Kidman, claimed the main role.

The next work in the straightforward teenage comedy Forbidden Mission (2004) was her first major role. Stewart played a mountaineering girl who decided to rob a bank to pay for the operation of her seriously ill father. The picture, well received by a young audience, allowed Stewart to demonstrate not only the dramatic, but also the comedic side of his acting talent.

Another film with Stewart’s participation in 2004 was the psychological drama “Undercurrent” , which, despite the participation in the project of the famous director David Gordon Green, producer Terrence Malick, as well as actors Jamie Bell, Josh Lucas and Dermot Mulroney, practically did not receive a box office.

The next film , Speak (2004), an independent adaptation of Laurie Halls Anderson’s bestselling novel of the same name, gave Kristen the opportunity to play a very challenging role. Her character Melinda is a schoolgirl who practically ceases to communicate with people after being raped, but does not lose the ability to make vivid and often sardonic comments, speaking them to herself. Stewart masterfully coped with the complexities of the character of the heroine. Unfortunately, the film was never released, but it was shown on television in a cut-down version.

Jon Favreau ‘s Zatura: A Space Adventure (2005) was a fantasy film. Although her character is frozen during the course of the film and she spends a long time lying motionless on the floor, Kristen again had the chance to demonstrate her comic abilities as the ever-angry sister of Josh Hutcherson and Ion Bobo. Despite the fact that critics liked Zatura, the box office was not high.

In the same year, Stewart starred in the lead role in the Canadian film Cruel Men by actor and director Griffin Dunn, based on the novel of the same name by Dirk Whittenborn. This is a drama about a masseuse with a difficult fate (Diane Lane), who for the summer comes with her son to her friend (Donald Sutherland), one of the richest people in the United States.

Kristen was nominated for the Young Actor Award three years in a row (2003 for her role in Panic Room, 2004 for Devil’s Mansion, and 2005 for Undercurrent), but never won.

In 2006, Stewart starred in In the Land of Women opposite Meg Ryan and Adam Brody. This was followed by another leading role in the film “Messengers” (2007), a thriller from the famous Thai directors, brothers Danny and Oxyd Pang, as well as the role of a girl suffering from a serious illness in the directorial debut of Mary Masterson, “The Cake Eaters” (2007).

In 2007, Sean Penn’s film Into the Wild was released , based on John Krakauer’s bestseller about the life of Christopher Mackandless.

In November 2007, Summit Entertainment announced that Kristen Stewart would star as Bella Swan in Twilight, a romantic thriller based on the book by Stephenie Meyer. The film was released in Russia on November 20, 2008 (a day earlier than in the USA).

In December 2008, the comedy drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was released, where, in addition to Kristen, Robert De Niro , Bruce Willis and Sean Penn played .

In the spring of 2009, Greg Mottola ‘s comedy “The Park of Culture and Leisure” was released , in which Kristen played one of the main roles, and at the end of the year the sequel to “Twilight” – “Twilight. Saga. New moon”. For her role in the second part of the saga, Kristen won the MTV Award for Best Actress, as well as the Best Kiss prize with Robert Pattinson.

In 2009-2010, the actress took part in several projects at once, including the third part of the “Twilight Saga”. In “Welcome to Riley,” Kristen played a girl who helps an unhappy family cope with her daughter’s death. This role was honored at the Milan International Film Festival in 2011 – the actress won the Best Actress nomination. In The Runaways, Stewart played Joan Jett, the leader of the punk girl group The Runaways. Joan Jett herself admitted that the actress achieved with her “a genuine, even frightening resemblance.”

In 2010, the actress played the most provocative role in Salles ‘ film “On the Road” based on the novel of the same name by Jack Kerouac. The premiere of the film took place on May 23, 2012 as part of the official competitive program of the Cannes Film Festival.

In March 2011, it was confirmed that Stewart would play Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman . Dakota Fanning, Saoirse Ronan, Riley Keough, Alicia Vikander, Bella Heathcote, Selena Gomez, Emily Browning, Lily Collins and Felicity Jones also received offers to play the role. Filming took place from August 15 to December 10, 2011.

The next role of the actress was to be the role of a girl named Maya in the film “Kali” directed by Nick Cassavetes. The actress was also supposed to act as the producer of the film. However, on August 8, 2012 it became known that Kristen Stewart was leaving the project.

On January 13, 2012 it became known that Stewart was chosen as the face of a new fragrance from the fashion house Balenciaga.

In 2013, Forbes magazine named her the third highest paid actress in Hollywood after Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence .

In the drama Camp X-Ray (2014), Stewart played the role of a young guard at Guantanamo Bay. After the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, Kristen Stewart decided to turn to directing.

Personal life of Kristen Stewart

In 2004-2009 she met with actor Michael Angarano, whom she met on the set of the film “Speak”.

Kristen then barely turned 14, and her partner in the film 17. The relationship of young people lasted four years. The idyll was broken by “Twilight”, after which Kristen gained fame and a new lover.

On the set of the movie “Twilight” in 2008, she met the actor Robert Pattinson , with whom she began a whirlwind romance.

The first discord happened in the summer of 2012 after the affair between Kristen Stewart and the director of the film “Snow White and the Huntsman” Rupert Sanders. The paparazzi filmed Kristen and Rupert in an environment that did not cause ambiguous definitions – they went much further than usual flirting.

Sanders’ wife Liberty Ross filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage.

After the scandal with Sanders, Pattinson sold the house in which he was going to live with Kristen, and the actress herself went to her mother. But in September 2012, the couple reconciled, and Kristen Stewart received a marriage proposal from Robert Pattinson. However, after a while they finally parted.

After breaking up with Robert Pattinson, Kristen could not come to her senses for a long time. However, then she started an affair with ex-boyfriend Jennifer Lawrence and concurrently the star of the X-Men franchise Nicholas Hoult. However, after a few months they dispersed.

Kristen Stewart is openly bisexual.

She had an affair with French actress and singer Stephanie Sokolinsky, known as SoKo. As it turned out, Sokolinsky once also had an affair with Robert Pattinson.

On August 24, 2016 it became known that Kristen made an offer to marry her girlfriend Alisha Kargail. However, the couple soon broke up.
